Hey all...
On the off chance that someone will follow this, I'll do my best to present it in a professional manner.
I'm moderately articulate, and spell ok, so maybe it will work out.
My name is Leigh. Pronounced Lee.
46 yrs old on 09/11/09
Ironically, my birthday is actually 9/11. Briefly, that happened to be a terrible day for me. My girlfriend at the time was named Peggy, and we woke up to a knock on the window at around 8:30 am. By the time I got the TV turned on, we were able to watch the 2nd plane hit the trade center.
I don't claim to be omnicient, but I knew once the 1st tower fell, the 2nd tower was going to fall too. Being a architect wasn't needed. The ground took such a blow with the 1st tower dropping, that it was obvious to me the 2nd was also going to drop.
At the time, I was 38 years old, and I would have joined any branch of the military that would have me. Fortunately for the military, they have higher standards.
Years have passed now, and I am 46 yrs old. 8 years ago I had a less than profitable mortgage company, and ended up sacrificing that investment for a job selling ice cream for Schwans. Not a good career move really.
While it sounds like a less than spectacular career move, it was actually the only one I could make. They were really tightening up on loan standards, and I used underwriters instead of bankers to get my loans done.
To bring you up to date, I now work as a freight conductor for CSX railroad out of Garrett Indiana. I'm actually proud to say that I also have my license to be an engineer.
This is a great job. Or was until recently. Its frustrating for me to see people with more company seniority being forced to Garrett to work. Its not their fault. They don't want to leave home any more than I do. I'm now in a situation where I may have to move to Lima, Ohio or Indy to be able to earn a living.
Doesnt matter. I'm not married, so there are kids to be affected by this change.
Wont be fun under any circumstances, but at some point you just have to accept the things
that you can't control and run with the differences.
Leigh
